Initiatives

As Karachi’s energy demands escalate with its growth, K-Electric (KE) is proactively upgrading its transmission infrastructure to ensure a reliable, affordable, and sustainable power supply to its consumers.

To leverage the surplus capacity in the National Grid, KE has successfully commissioned the 500kV KKI and 220kV Dhabeji Grid Stations, enabling additional power off-take. These strategic projects not only bolster Karachi’s power supply but also help ease transmission constraints in the National Grid.

Under the 900MW BQPS-III flagship project, KE has further strengthened its transmission network by upgrading two critical load grids and two generation interconnection grid stations. These enhancements improve system reliability and accommodate Karachi’s growing industrial and commercial needs.

Looking ahead, KE has developed a long-term transmission expansion plan extending to FY30, which is part of its Multi-Year Tariff (FY24-30) submission currently under NEPRA’s review. This comprehensive plan includes 6 new 132kV grid stations and 3 new 220kV grid stations, along with their associated transmission lines. Moreover, transformation capacity addition of 595MVAs at 132/11kV voltage level and 2000MVAs at 220/132kV voltage level is also included in the submitted plan.

Through these initiatives, KE remains committed to delivering a robust, future-ready power infrastructure, ensuring that Karachi continues to thrive with a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.

Transmission Expansion Plan by 2030

  • 6 new 132kV grid stations
  • 3 new 220kV grid stations
  • 595 MVA of added capacity at 132/11kV
  • 2000 MVA of added capacity at 220/132kV

KE remains committed to delivering a future-ready power infrastructure, ensuring that our customers continue to thrive with a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
