At KE, we prioritize values rooted in a strong commitment to 100% safety. We maintain the highest health and safety standards for our employees, customers, contractors, communities, and the environment. This commitment covers all aspects of our operations, including offices, generation plants, transmission and distribution networks, business travel, and even at home.
Established in 2009, our HSE department ensures strict governance through the HSEQ function, encouraging personal and process safety across the board. Our HSE Management System outlines the principles guiding our operations, reinforced by company-wide policies and standards.
Safety remains our top priority – with strategic risk management plans and emergency procedures in place to ensure our employees, contractors, and customers return home safely every day.
To further embed a safety-first culture, KE initiated the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) across all business units in FY21. This system delivers targeted interventions, addresses risk areas and system gaps, and ensures alignment on safety objectives organization wide. A comprehensive gap analysis and benchmarking of KE’s Safety Management System was conducted with DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS), and KE is now developing 22 PSM elements for implementation across all Business Units.
A Corporate HSEQ Manual, aligned with the NEPRA Power Safety Code and DuPont’s PSM framework, has been prepared, approved, and shared company wide.
An Integrated Organizational Structure has also been established, featuring nearly 750 Safety Committees that meet regularly to discuss HSE matters, from top leadership to field staff – helping nurture a strong, consistent safety culture.
Additionally, KE launched the Behavioral Observation Program (MSAs), through which over 40,000 Management Safety Audits are conducted annually at all levels, from leadership to officers.
Together, these initiatives are steadily transforming KE into an industry benchmark for HSE performance, built on a safety culture that leads by example.
At KE, employee health is a top priority. Regular awareness sessions, circulars, health and hygiene checks, and training programs are conducted to promote well-being. Our holistic approach, Employee Wellbeing 360, includes webinars and engagement activities focused on both physical and mental wellness.
We are committed to a workplace culture with zero injuries, illnesses, or incidents. By proactively identifying health and safety risks across our operating sites, we aim to provide a safe and secure environment for all employees and contractors.
Given the nature of our industry, we recognize the occupational health hazards our workforce may face. As strong advocates of employee safety and well-being, we conduct regular training sessions and health education programs to build awareness and minimize HSE risks.
At KE, our commitment to environmental excellence is led by a dedicated team overseeing regulatory compliance, sustainability practices, and environmental and social due diligence across all business units. We ensure adherence to national environmental laws and international standards throughout the planning, construction, and operational phases of our Generation, Transmission, and Distribution networks.
To minimize environmental impact, KE conducts environmental studies and implements management plans for each project phase. Emission and effluent discharges from our power plants are regularly monitored to ensure compliance with environmental quality standards, validated by independent auditors, and reported to relevant regulators as per prescribed timelines. Hazardous waste is responsibly disposed of via certified contractors at EPA-approved facilities, with full documentation maintained.
Our Environmental Sustainability Management System (ESMS) is aligned with ISO 14001 and the British Five Star Environmental Audit model. It integrates our HSEQ policy, standard operating procedures, internal audits, data reporting mechanisms, and training structures. An Environmental and Social Management Representative (ESMR) and a cross-functional committee ensure effective implementation across departments.
Customized corporate environmental procedures are rolled out and embedded in all units. Regular training sessions are conducted for new and existing staff on general and technical topics, with designated coordinators ensuring knowledge is cascaded to wider teams.
To promote best practices, KE conducts Environmental Excellence Award Audits across all departments in four categories. These audits focus on documentation, training, legal compliance, impact assessments, pollution prevention, resource conservation, waste minimization, carbon footprint reduction, air quality management, tree plantations, and overall environmental performance tracking.
At KE, we believe that a strong culture of quality, compliance, integrity, and continuous improvement drives efficiency, enhances customer satisfaction, boosts financial performance, and increases shareholder value.
Our ongoing quality transformation journey is built on challenging the status quo and embedding sustainability into every process. This transformation is driven by our committed and skilled employees, who uphold strong work ethics and contribute to building a high-performance, sustainable work culture.
Our Quality Framework
The organization-wide quality program is designed with long-term impact in mind. It is backed by a robust governance structure that fosters accountability, encourages cross-functional collaboration, and actively engages employees at all levels to achieve quality goals.
Key initiatives rolled out include:
4-Tier Governance Structure
KE’s quality governance is structured across four tiers:
Continuous Improvement in Action
KE implements globally recognized methodologies such as 5S, KAIZEN, and Six Sigma to improve operational performance and process optimization. Over 100 projects have been launched under KAIZEN, and several Six Sigma projects are also underway.
We’ve also initiated department-wise Quality Goals to institutionalize a process-oriented mindset across the organization.
Built-In Quality Assurance
To maintain service consistency and project integrity, KE ensures that quality assurance plans are embedded from the start - covering the full scope of work and aligning with all relevant codes, specifications, and procedures.
People-First Approach
Leadership at KE is deeply committed to creating a work environment that values employee engagement. This is achieved through recognition, rewards, growth opportunities, and a strong focus on work-life balance—ensuring that quality is not just a process, but a way of life.
As a vertically integrated utility, KE prioritizes fire safety across all its operations and locations. Regular inspections are conducted to ensure that all fire safety systems - including fire extinguishers, alarms, suppression systems, and firefighting equipment are in optimal working condition.
To support emergency preparedness, KE has trained Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) stationed across locations to respond swiftly to scenarios such as fire outbreaks, medical emergencies, and evacuation situations.
KE is committed not just to employee safety but also to the well-being of the communities it serves. Public safety awareness is an ongoing focus, with regular campaigns and outreach efforts conducted through various platforms.
Key initiatives include:
KE also urges all citizens to report electrical safety hazards at any time through its 24/7 helpline 118.
